This wikiHow teaches you how to connect your Windows PC to your television without any cables. If you have a Smart TV with Chromecast or Miracast built in (which should be most modern non-Apple TVs), you can generally mirror anything on your PC's screen to your TV. If you have a TV that doesn't support Chromecast or Miracast but does have the ability to connect to a wireless network, you can use a streaming device like Roku or the standalone Chromecast so you can connect it to your PC wirelessly.
Steps
Method 1 of 2:Using Chromecast
- 1Turn on your Chromecast-enabled TV. If your TV is an Android TV, is powered by Chromecast, or has a Chromecast device attached, you can mirror any Chromecast-enabled Windows apps to the screen. Many Windows apps support Chromecast, including Google Chrome, Netflix, Spotify, and Plex.
- If you have the Google Chrome web browser, you can use it to mirror any website to the TV. This includes websites like YouTube, Netflix, and Facebook. Google Chrome also lets you mirror your Windows PC's entire screen!
- 2Connect your PC to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV. The TV and PC must be on the same network to use Chromecast.Advertisement
- 3Open the app or website you want to cast to the TV. For example, if you want to watch YouTube on your TV, you'd open the Chrome web browser and navigate to https://www.youtube.com.
- 4Select the Cast option. If you're using Google Chrome, click the three-dot menu at the top-right corner and select Cast.[1]
- 5Choose what you want to cast (Google Chrome only). If you're casting from Google Chrome, you can cast a few different ways:
- Cast the current browser tab: This is the default option, so just skip to the next step.
- Cast your entire screen: Click the down-arrow next to 'Cast to' and select Cast desktop.
- Cast a music or video file: Click the down-arrow next to 'Cast to,' select Cast file, and then choose the file you want to cast.
- 6Click your Smart TV on the list. Once selected, you will see the currently-open app, stream, file, or website on your Smart TV.
- 7Stop casting to your TV. When you're finished, you'll want to disconnect your PC from the TV.
- Google Chrome: Click the three-dot menu at the top-right corner and select Stop casting.
- Other apps: Pause the stream to bring up the icons, and then click the Cast icon to disconnect.

Method 2 of 2:Using Miracast
- 1Turn on your Miracast-enabled TV. If your TV is Miracast-enabled (or you're using a Miracast-supported streaming device, such as Roku and many Amazon Fire TVs), you can connect to it using your Miracast-enabled PC. Depending on your TV or streaming device, you may have to enable Miracast (could be called Screen Mirroring or Mirroring as well.
- Use this link to find a searchable list of all TVs with built-in Miracast support.
- Use Roku's product comparison tool to find out if your Roku model supports screen mirroring (required for Miracast).
- 2Make sure your PC supports Miracast. Miracast is available on most notebooks and all-in-one PCs running Windows 10 and 8. To find out if you have Miracast:
- Open the Windows Search bar and type connect.[2]
- 3Connect your PC to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV. The TV and PC must be on the same network to use Miracast.
- 4Press ⊞ Win+P on your PC. This opens the projection menu.
- 5Choose what you want to project. If you want to see your PC's entire screen on your TV and still be able to use your PC, select Duplicate. If you just want to use your TV as a monitor, choose PC screen only. If you'd like to use your TV as an additional monitor for your PC, select Extend. If you have multiple displays connected to your PC, you could choose to mirror only one if you wish.
- 6Click Connect to a wireless display. It's at the bottom of the list.
- 7Click your TV or streaming device on the list. Depending on your settings, you may see a code on your TV that you must enter on your computer to pair. After pairing is complete, you will be able to connect wirelessly without any problems.
- 8Stop casting to your TV. When you're finished, you'll want to disconnect your PC from the TV. To do so:
- Click the Notification panel, which is the squared chat bubble to the right of the clock, usually at the bottom-right corner of the screen. If you have active notifications, you'll see a small number over the icon.
- Click Disconnect next to the name of your TV or streaming device.
